The Kingdom of Acre

The main topic of the thesis is basic problems of the Kingdom of Acre from 1187 to 1291. The first part briefly outlines the situation in Palestine during the First crusade, founding of Kingdom of Jerusalem, the increase of its importance and prestige in the political situation of the Middle East. Chapter ends with a fatal battle of Hattin. The second chapter, which is the main part of the whole work, is dedicated to restoring the kingdom during the Third crusade, internal struggles between the political factions , the resistance of the nobility against the centralized royal power, pursue of keeping the occupied territories and the problems that led to the downfall of the Kingdom by the conquest of the capital city of Acre in 1291. In this chapter I also want to present historical figures which have the historical influence on development of the Holy Land. Venetian-Cilician relations between 1198-1375

The thesis deals with the description and analysis of the various forms of relations between the Republic of Venice and the Kingdom of Cilicia in the period 1199-1175, during the existence of the kingdom. In introduction it provides a brief overview of the historical development of both states, with emphasis on common developmental stages in the mentioned period. The core analyzes primary sources of narrative and official character which reflect the relations of both states.
Kingdom of Jerusalem (1099-1187)

The main topic of the thesis is to capture the fundamental problems of Kingdom of Jerusalem from 1099 - 1187. The first part briefly outlines the political, religious and social situation in the period preceding the establishment of the Latin states in Palestine. It is also concerned about First crusade and the conquest of Jerusalem, by which is finished. The second chapter deals with realities of the Kingdom, its extent, society, trade and with life of the people from Holy Land. The third chapter, which is the main part of the thesis, is focused on the origin of the Kingdom, on its growth, on internal and external problems, on the relationship with Muslim neighbors, with European Crusaders and with the Byzantine empire. It also deals with relationship between the king and the nobility, and its presenting the image of the people which formed this period. The thesis ends with the fatal battle of Hattin, which finished the first phase of the existence of Christian states in Palestine. The Fifth Crusade 1213 - 1221: The Holy See and the fight against the Muslims

This dissertation is devoted to the preparation and process of the Fifth Crusade, i.e. the stage from 1213, when it was declared by The Pope Innocent III. to 1221. It investigates the way of recruiting crusaders and the attitudes of the official representatives of the Church structures during the Crusade in relation to secular rulers. Their actions confronts with activities of other actors - from the Christian perspective primarily with the actions of Francis of Assisi. The dissertation evaluates benefit of his activities for the Crusade movement and for the future of the Franciscan order. The dissertation is also attempting to demonstrate the characteristic of the crusade given a Muslim environment including the Muslim perspective of Francis's actions and sermon. The epiloque describes the Crusade of Frederick II as the continuity of the Fifth Crusade. In the end there is a valorization of the results of the Crusade movement.
Narratives of the crusades in czech high school history textbooks published during the 20th century

This thesis deals with different narratives of the crusades found in czech high school history textbooks published during the 20th century. The paper shows various narrative strategies, use of languages and figures of speech that allow for many different points of view and a wide range of explanations of the same historical material. The paper is grounded in the historical narrativism paradigm and organized as follows: the first chapter introduces the theoretical background of narrativism, the second chapter deals with the theoretical approach to history textbooks and with the research that has gone into them. The third chapter offers analyses of all of the scrutinized history textbooks. The fourth and final chapter presents a synthesis spanning all the textbooks, looking for various recurring themes and phenomena.
Philip II Augustus from point of view period sources

The reign of Philip II. Augustus represents a turning point in the development of French monarchy and foundation of the powerful kingdom and the strong royal reign. After his succession in 1179 he was forced to fight for independent reign and royal power with his relatives, above all with the Count of Flanders Philip of Alsace. Royal victory at the battle of Boves meant the beginning of Philip's independent reign. In the following years he encouraged disputes between the members of Plantagenet dynasty. After the death of Henry II. Philip set out the Third Crusade with Henry's successor Richard I. the Lionheart. But Philip turned back earlier and started off the long fight for Plantagenet's French lands. The battle of Bouvines in the reign of Richard's brother John I. brought out the culmination of the war and Philip's victory. This bachelor's thesis is based upon the view of period sources and brings the description of king's life and rule with the special attention to key moments of Philip's reign.
Mission and goals of the Order of Malta

This bachelor thesis deals with the mission, goals and tasks of the chivalric and hospitaller Order of Malta from its foundation until the conquest of Malta in 1798. It examines the development of the main tasks of the Order and their transformation depending on the current international situation and the location of the seat of the Order. The thesis deals with the form of these tasks in each of the seats of the Order (in the Holy Land, on Rhodes and on Malta), as well as with their transformation in the environment of the Commanderies on the European continent. The main emphasis is laid on the development of the two main branches of the order's mission, tasks of hospitaller nature and the military ones. The primary goal of the thesis is exploration of the overall development of these goals and tasks and the comparison of their development in the seats of the Order and the European Commanderies.
